I’m Tim Stringham and I’m running for Maricopa County Recorder. I was born and raised in Arizona and I’ve spent most of my adult life serving in the Armed Forces since graduating from Arizona State University - first in the United States Army, including a tour of Afghanistan in 2012, then in the United States Navy as an attorney in the Judge Advocate General's Corps.
As a member of the military I’ve been blessed to travel all over the world, see dozens of countries, meet countless people and represent the United States of America in uniform. Those experiences, in both war and peace, taught me a lot about leadership, service and sacrifice.
As a member of the military I had to trust the voters back home and I'll continue to trust them as an elections official. America was built on the premise of a government "...of the people, by the people, for the people." Instead, today we often see politicians who spend their time trying to pick their voters instead of enabling the voters to pick their politicians.
That’s why I’m running for Maricopa County Recorder -to protect your right to vote. The County Recorder is responsible for voter registration and early voting, including all mail voting for almost 2.5 million registered voters. I'll safeguard our elections and advocate for you, the voter.
I’m proud to be running as a Democrat, but I’m not asking you to pick a team: Over 80% of Arizonans vote by mail. It is the single easiest way to ensure you can exercise your right to vote, even as you try to raise your family, work multiple jobs or run your own business. Whether we agree on other issues, we should agree that in the United States of America, politicians shouldn't be trying to make it harder for you to vote.
If elected as Maricopa County Recorder, I'll work to ensure that each eligible citizen gets to vote in a safe, secure and convenient way and that each vote will be counted fairly and transparently.
Tim enlisted in the United States Army in 2009 and earned a commission as a Second Lieutenant after graduating from Officer Candidate School. In 2012, he deployed to northern Afghanistan as the Civil Affairs Planning Officer for Regional Command - North, as well as led a Civil Affairs Team in support of Provincial Reconstruction Team Northern Lights.
Thanks to the Post 9/11 GI Bill, Tim attended Notre Dame Law School. He decided to continue serving his country in the U.S. Navy JAG Corps, where he was assigned as an International Law instructor in Newport, RI where he was responsible for giving human rights training to foreign nation partners in Africa, Europe and the Middle East. He continues to practice international and military operational law as a member of the United States Navy Reserve. He was recently selected for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
